Edloe St. Cafe is a fixture in its surrounding West University Place neighborhood, it’s current owner/chef, EI recently came to the helm 12 years ago. EI, a true family man, brought with him the friendly personal touch that makes this place full of regulars who keep coming back.

EI arrives at Edloe St. before the sun rises, personally making each perfectly executed salsa, dressing, sauce and biscuit you will find on the cafes broad menu. Edloe St. serves Breakfast and Lunch daily along with a selection of wine and beer. Once the sun goes down their focus is on turning this cafe into a private venue for many special occasions including corporate events, birthdays and rehearsal dinners serving the a more upscale fare but with the same love and attention as their daily menu.

Sitting down with EI over lunch on the sun drenched patio, I immediately knew the reason Edloe St. has a regular following. EI and his staff serve food with pride, ease and most of all love. I was given the opportunity to try and array of items from the lunch menu while getting to know the chef himself.

First up was the huevos rancheros. Ahh, y’all, I can see myself returning on a Saturday morning with my family to enjoy these again and again. Two perfectly fried sunny side up eggs with the most amazing spicy red sauce all resting on creamy mashed black beans and a doughy corn tortilla. As if this was not enough to make me love this dish, the avocado rice that comes on the side is to die for. Creamy avocado folded into fluffy rice topped with fresh pico de gallo – yum!

Something you must not miss is the hot and spicy taco fries served with cool ranch dressing. Fresh french fries topped with shredded cheese, crispy bacon and spicy ground beef. This is an indulgence worth every gloriously bite!

Next up was the battle of the tacos. Freshly caught fried Mahi Mahi versus the house smoked pulled pork. Y’all, when I say these tacos were good, I mean like whoa! These tacos were goooodddd. The Mahi Mahi was so fresh and well-seasoned wrapped in warm corn tortillas. Remember that salsa EI comes in to make bright and early? It’s served alongside both these tacos and it does not disappoint a girl who likes the spice. I think in the end, for me, the pulled pork was the winner. Being raised straddling the fence between Louisiana and Texas, I love me some well-seasoned barbeque. This pork, y’all, it was juicy, smoky, sweet with just the right kick of spice. The pork taco was also wrapped in those moist corn tortilla and topped with fresh pico de gallo. Do not miss the tacos at Edloe St. Cafe!

At this point I thought I cannot eat another thing! Then, as if in slow motion, they sat down a juicy, tall burger with glistening fries on the table. I did not want to be rude, right? So I thought I will have the tiniest of bites. Oh Lordy! I could not stop! A freshly baked bun, a perfectly fried egg and the high quality beef that is the hallmark of every good burger. Topped just the way Jimmy Buffet and I like it: Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle and Cheese! This is a solid burger y’all!

All in all, I left Edloe St. Cafe with a very full tummy and a new friend. If you want to step away from the bustle of our glorious city, come to Edloe St. They will be waiting to serve you tons of handmade food with love and a smile.
